Generalities

Description

It is a ergoline derivative; as other ergopeptides are formed by cyclol; it have in addition three amino acids of which two are united by a >N-C(OH)< bond.

Uses

Pharmaceutical manufacture.

Obtaining method

The bromocryptine can be obtained from alfa-ergociptine bromantine in reaction with dibromantine. The 2-bromo-alpha-ergocryptine can be later react with meansulfonic acid to form 2-bromo-alpha-ergocryptine mesylate.

Pharmacology

Pharmacological Action

The main activity of bromocryptine is the disminution of plasmatic levels of prolactine. The bromocryptine mesylate is a D₂ dopamine receptors agonist; the dopaminergic neurons modulate the prolactine secretion by the anterior hypophysis.
In D₁ dopamine receptor acts as antagonist in nanomolar concentration an agonist in micromolar concentratios.

Indications

Bromocryptine mesylate is used to treat: associated hyperprolactemia dysfunctions, parkinson diseasse and, in treatment of diabetes tipe II. Is used in the treatment of: galactorrhoea, infertility or hypogonadism, benign mammary disease, puerperal mammary congestion, mastalgia, menstrual cycle disorders, polycystic ovary and acromegaly.
